NEW! This class is an intense 50 minute cardio workout appropriate for intermediate and advanced levels of fitness. Moves include high-intensity cardio, cardio intervals, plyometrics and kickboxing. Participants should wear comfortable fitness clothes and sneakers and should bring water and a towel to each class. Yoga mat optional. 

This class takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from January 6th - January 29th,  6-7 pm

Drop in fee: $6

$40 for all 4 weeks

Youth Basketball PDF Print E-mail

The Rockport Youth  Basketball program is designed for kids grades 1-6 to learn the fundamentals of the sport while having fun! Your child will learn skills and drills and participate in games. The program runs on Saturdays during the winter. This season the program will run 1/10/15-2/14/15. If any parent is interested in helping out, please let us know.

Times:

Grades 1 & 2: 8:30am - 9:30 am

Grades 3 & 4: 9:30am - 10:30 am

Grades 5 & 6: 10:45 am - 12:00 pm

Please mail your registration to Rockport Recreation Department, Ste.1, Gloucester, MA 01930. Make your check payable to Town of Rockport.

The Recreation Department is pleased to sponsor programs to a wide cross section of our community. Our department services residents ranging from 5 years old to 85 years young.

 

Our mission remains the same.  We want all of our citizens to have the opportunity to participate; by offering quality programs for a reasonable fee.  The Recreation Department encourages diversity and our programs are ADA accessible.

 

Our year round Exercise Program has expanded greatly, but our most popular program continues to be senior fitness.

 

 

Adult Indoor Soccer continues to be a big hit with sessions running in both the fall and spring. 

 

Each winter we sponsor youth basketball. This is for boys and girls from grade 1 to grade 6. Each Saturday in the winter you can find over eighty-five children participating in this terrific program. Phil Whitley our Director has done a great job at expanding our program. We are pleased with the turn out in numbers and the direction the program has taken. Of course the children are thrilled to have this Saturday activity! The program would not be a success without the great number of adult and youth volunteers who participate so faithfully each week.

 

Come spring we sponsor Tee-Ball for our younger grade school children. A variety of folks will be involved in helping out this year. Kevin Merz has been involved in this program for several years, and has now past the torch to Scott Deluca.

 

Our Tennis program continues to blossom. We are fortunate to have Bailey See direct this program. She has tremendous experience and will again bring Rockport's Tennis program to a new level. Her experience is vast and she is a Pro. Bailey received her Master's Degree in Recreation with her thesis on Tennis Instruction. Stay tuned for more information about our 2015 program schedule.

 

Each summer you will find many of our children still attending school!  However, it is to attend our Summer Fun Program at Rockport Elementary School. The children of Rockport come and participate in a wide variety of games, sports, arts, crafts, and outdoor activities. This program serves children going into Grades one through five. Our goal is to expand this program to five days a week. We are also planning on starting a program for children entering and through middle school, grades six through eight. The Recreation Department would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all of our volunteers that give so many hours to benefit our community. We would not have these wonderful programs without these committed individuals. Our pledge remains to keep our programs affordable for the community while maintaining the highest standards possible.  As always we welcome new volunteers to help with the programs and of course all ideas are invaluable.

The Forever Fit program is for adults 55 and older. Exercise is one of the best things you can do for your health. It can help you take charge of your health and maintain the level of fitness necessary for an active, independent lifestyle. Our class keeps motivation alive while also providing a source of fun, stress relief and a place to meet friends. Below is the class structure:

Warm up ~ Strength training ~ Cardio Endurance ~ Cool down ~ Balance ~ Flexibility

The next session runs 12/1/14-1/23/15


Wear light clothing and comfortable sneakers that provide good support.
Bring a set of light weights (1-5 lbs), WATER, and a yoga mat.
Have Fun!

Classes run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. 8:30-9:30 AM. Sessions run for 6 weeks. Come any 3 days a week for only $50 a session! 

There will be no Forever Fit class from December 22 - January 2. Classes resume January 5.

Drop-in fee is just $4 per class! $50 for all 6 weeks.
